Evelyn Glennie: Shows How to Listen

Describe what it felt like listening to her play. What factors helped create this moment? You can describe any of the times that she played on either instrument (the Snare drum or Marimba).
-The last Thing she played I guess on the Marimba, made me feel really down and just kept you quiet and watching and listening. It was powerful i could say because it felt like she was putting meaning into it.

What elements of her performance influenced what the audience heard?
-I think that really made her performance special or unique was that she's deaf. Something else about her performance was how she would play different things and explain how their different.

What did she mean by, "Each person experiences music in their own way"? Think about how you experience music and why everyone doesn't enjoy listening to the same music.
-Many people listen to music that they think fits them; their personality, the way they dress, etc. Some music or songs could be more meaningful to someone than it can be with some other person. What I think she meant by was each person experiences music in their own way was that everybody gets something different out of the same music.

Cassini Spacecraft 1997-2010

-Cassini Spacecarft just finished its orginal mission exploring Saturn and its moons. Its new Equinox mission is to observe seasonal changes on Saturn extending its life to this year 2010.
2. What's the big deal with this topic? Why should you care about its developments and any new discoveries that are made?
-It's life or mission is likely to be extended again, it will continue gathering information and pictures at least until 2017. After that, researchers want to land it on Saturn to find more data but only if they can find a way through the rings of Saturn.
3. What's going to happen to this topic in 2010?
-It's mission was extended to observe seasonal changes on Saturn.
4. What obstacles or setbacks are in the way of this topic's success?
-Researchers still don't know a way to get the spacecraft onto the planet Saturn because it can't go through the rings.

Iron Man 2

-There making a second movie for Iron Man. Robert Downey Jr. the same actor from the 1st movie is returning to make a second movieas industrialist Tony Stark and Iron Man. This falls under entertainment.
2. What's the big deal with this topic? Why should you care about its developments and any new discoveries that are made?
-Tony Stark and Iron Man takes on Russian villan Whiplash, Black Widow, and industry rival Justin Hammer.
3. What's going to happen to this topic in 2010?
-The movie is coming out in 2010.
4. What obstacles or setbacks are in the way of this topic's success?
-There isn't any obstacles are setbacks stated.

Goals for mysics

1st:I want to really understand the unit packets. 1st step: Ask classmates for help and if I still don't understand then I will try to go to office hours.

2nd: Work more on the INs
1st step: Work before the answers are put on the board and ask questions when i don't understand a question.

3rd: Turn homework on time
1st step: Keep track of things on my planner and not leaving things for the last minute

The Origin of Zero

What strikes you about the articles?
-What strikes is that they so much information about zero or about numbers in general because I never thought about how there use to be mathematics way back then. What I also find astonishing is how they discover these things from a long times ago, and how it went around through out the whole world that every body knew about it.

How do we decide who discovers what?
-It’s not really exact in who discovers zero because it was first discovered in Mesopotamia around 3 B.C, and then it kept getting discovered in other places through the years but wasn’t found in Rome. Later in India in the fifth century A.D it started to be considered as a number.

Who really discovered zero? Is it the person who came up with the concept of zero or the person who discovered the actual number?
-I think nobody really exactly discovered zero because if the person who came up with the concept of it being a place holder, it wouldn’t have become an actual number and the person that made it an actual number was because there was already the concept of it.

And how did the entire world come to a consensus without an efficient means of communication?
-The meaning of zero and the concept of zero was made by communication. That how it was spread, too.

The Locker problem

The pattern is 1 open, 2 shut, 1 open, 4 shut, 1 open, 6 shut, etc. The numbers that have a perfect square are the numbers that are open. A perfect square has an odd number of factors so; the square roots are touched odd numbers of times. When the 17th person comes along it doesn’t touch any number before 17 so, all those numbers before 17 stay in the same state. An an example for factors is this one: 16: 16, 1, 2, 8, & 4. 18: 1, 18, 2, 9, 3, 6. There are 5 numbers for 16 so it goes open, closed, open, close, and open. For 18: open, close, open, close, open, and close. One of the factors of 16 is 4; its 4x4 but you put 4 only once. There are 31 square numbers from 1-1000. So, there are 31 lockers opened and 969 lockers closed.

What does it mean to do math? What does math look like? Where do you find math? Who uses it?

Math to me is when you work out a problem with numbers. When somebody says math i think of numbers. But, math at the same time is every where like at the store and a lot of people use. i think every body uses it because you need to count money keep track of it. You also use when you go shopping and stuff. A lot of jobs also have to do with math most of them too so, math is pretty much everywhere even though we dont notice it. For me math has always been on e of my favorite subjects at school because I ahave always been pretty good a it but i also use to think that I was never going to use it life. Recently Teachers have applied what we learn to real world problems to make us see that we will eventually need it.

What is physics? Are we doing physics? Where can you find it? Who uses it?

I dont really know what physics is. Pysics is a type of science. I guess its like how does everything work and why does it work. Physics i guess also has to do with atoms. It's also everywhere because science involves with everything. The sky, flowers, weather, atoms. Even though we dont notice it as much as we do with math. When somebody says science people usually think about labs or kids at school doing experiments to learn. To me science was really hard and boring because i would think about the periodic table and all that confusion but when you learn about it, it's fascinating.
